“Dami mo sapatos, tapos bawat sapatos mo parang isang aura ng split personality mo Ate eh, tapos hihiram ka pa sken?” my younger brother complained. I rolled my eyes and smirked. “Hihiramin ko pa rin naman eh. Mas bagay kasi eh.”
Why do we own so many shoes?
I got three pairs of school shoes, all of its heels are above 3 inches, two pairs of running shoes, another pair for hiking, two pairs of original sneakers and another two pairs of imitation plus one more pair of what looks like confused Chucks. I have a total of ten pairs of shoes in our family shoe rack, dominating what should have been Mom’s and my little sisters’ place. I have two more strappy sandals plus another pair of Sandugo to complete the whole set. Someone once told me, pamper your feet because they are the most abused part of the body. A very "Imeldific" concept, indeed! Superficially, it is.
We wear different pairs of shoes in different occasions that require different representations. In the same way, we wear different pairs of shoes in front of different kinds of people, dear or not. We are different each time.
But when do the different versions of you end? When do you become you?
The front door opens. I enter. The echo of the closing door fills the living room. I smile at you as you turn your back from the computer screen. I put my bag on the small monoblock beside the door and started to remove my brother's oversized sandals.
"Late ka na naman," he clicked shut down and walked on bare feet. He inched toward me, also now on bare feet.
"Aga aga pa kasi eh. Love naman kita kahit late ako." I kissed him on the cheeks and pinched his nose.
May you find someone to be barefoot with.
